Wyndham expands reach with acquisition of $44 million Vienna home

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has acquired the Vienna House brand in a $44 million deal with HR Group, a European hotel operator and longtime partner, the company announced Thursday. HR Group will continue to lease, own and operate existing Vienna House properties under long-term franchise agreements.

The deal adds nearly 40 hotels to the European market – 28 in Germany alone – and more than 6,000 rooms to Wyndham’s portfolio, which previously had 9,000 hotels in more than 95 countries.

“Europe continues to show accelerated growth for the travel industry with strong demand rebounding steadily in leisure and business,” Wyndham Chairman and CEO Geoff Ballotti said in a statement.

Once finalized, the Vienna House brand will be officially known as Vienna House by Wyndham, alongside Wyndham’s 23 brands, including La Quinta, Wyndham, Baymont, Ramada and Trademark Collection.

The move also positions the Vienna House brand for growth, utilizing Wyndham’s marketing capabilities.

“Vienna House’s customer-centric culture, strong brand recognition and ambitious brand development plans align with our distribution goals, making it a perfect complement to continue our international growth and strengthen our position and our commitment to the region,” Ballotti said.

Wyndham’s combined European portfolio now includes more than 400 hotels in more than 30 countries.
