Sheriff: GHOST team discovers child pornography on Florida man’s phone, out-of-state charges pending | criminality

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) — A Florida man arrested by the GHOST team could face additional charges, according to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.

Petar Pejic already faces 12 charges, including multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, possession of child sexual abuse material and using a computer to commit a crime.

Investigators say Pejic flew to the Flint area in February and had sex with a 12-year-old girl at the Baymont Inn in Mt. Morris Township.

Swanson released new details on the alleged encounter on Wednesday. He said Pejic treated the alleged victim on Instagram and continued to communicate with her on Discord.

Before flying to Michigan on Feb. 20, Pejic reportedly convinced the girl that there would be an exchange of ownership. He rented a car from Detroit Metro Airport and drove to the Flint area, where he met the girl after she jumped out of her house window after midnight.

Pejic reportedly drove the girl to the Baymont Inn, where he is accused of sexually assaulting her. He remains in the Genesee County Jail pending further court proceedings.

Swanson said Pejic may also have committed similar crimes in Oregon, Georgia and Washington state.

Swanson said a potential victim of Pejic reported to Washington State Police and criminal sexual conduct charges are pending there. He did not provide further details on this investigation.

Swanson said Pejic could be charged with new Washington state charges on a video feed from Genesee County so police don’t have to fly Pejic across the country.

Swanson believes Pejic may have sexually assaulted others in the county and potentially more in Mid-Michigan. He mentioned earlier that Pejic apparently spent time in Oregon and Washington State after the Mt. Morris Township incident.

Investigators are also looking into whether Pejic sexually assaulted anyone else in Mid-Michigan. Swanson said Pejic spent at least 48 hours in the Flint area when the Mt. Morris Township incident took place, but police can only account for four hours of his activity in the area.

“Because he was in Michigan for about 48 hours and we can only explain that short window, what else and who else could he have assaulted? That’s why it’s a big deal.” , Swanson said.

Separately, Swanson said the investigation into the contents of Pejic’s cellphone continues on Wednesday. Authorities found 2,500 videos on the phone and many of them allegedly depict child pornography.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office continues to review the videos, but Swanson said investigators can only watch so many at a time because the material is difficult to see.

Swanson announced no new charges against Pejic related to the phone’s content while this part of the investigation continues.

Anyone assaulted by Pejic should call the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office at 810-257-3422 or any local law enforcement agency to file a report.
