Man Kills Former Civil Servant After She Reports Rape, Police Say | Crime and courts

“We cannot begin to express how deeply we mourn,” the family said in a statement. “Mary Felton was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to many. She cared so much about her community.”

This episode of the “Riding Shotgun with NWI Cops” series takes viewers amid flames and smoke with local firefighters.

Felton reported that she had been raped

Felton was at the Gary Police Department from about 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday speaking to a detective about the allegations that Shearer broke into her home in the Glen Park section of town on Monday, pointed a gun at she when she arrived home and raped her, according to court records.

Felton told police she was leaving the Ameristar Casino in East Chicago on Monday afternoon when she met Shearer.

He got angry when she said she didn’t want to talk to him, told him not to call the police and left, records show.

When Felton arrived home, she noticed that a pillow was out of place just before Shearer came out of inside her house and pointed a gun at her, according to documents.

Felton claimed that Shearer told him, “If you breathe police again, I’m going to kill you.” Don’t play the fool and bring nothing back.

After the alleged rape, Felton went to the Northlake Methodist Hospitals campus, where a sexual assault kit was collected.
