Hi-Liner Speech Capture Fourth legal title


JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com/Abby Ingstad) – The Valley City High School Speech Team attended the 2021 State Class A Speech Tournament on Saturday, April 17e at Jamestown High School. The 68e The state’s annual Class A speech tournament saw qualifiers from 17 Class A schools from both regions. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only the top 7 winners from each region (EDC and WDA) qualified from regions for the state tournament.

Valley City High School managed to capture their 4e consecutive state title, with 106 draw points, ahead of 2nd place Jamestown with 88 points. 3rd Bismarck St. Mary’s place had 73 points and 4e Place Dickinson had 48 points.

Valley City had an individual state champion, Vismaya Jacob (11th grade) in poetry performance. There were 4 finalists: Olivia Slyter (EPR), Amelia Meester (Storytelling), Madi Klabo (Extemporaneous Speaking), Lillian Kiefert (Dramatic Interpretation). Valley City managed to place 27 of their 36 state tournament entries, the most from any team.

Next up for the Hi-Liner Speech Team is the National Speech and Debate Association ND Roughrider District Tournament at the Baymont Inn And Suites in Mandan, ND on Monday April 19.e.
