“Let’s have a strategy for Chicago, there is no strategy yet. There is no plan,” Pfleger said.

The march to own the city streets is fueled by faith with amplified calls for a collective solution to the Chicago crime.

“We will continue to call for a state of emergency in this state of Illinois,” Pfleger said. “The governor, the chairman of the Cook County board of directors and the mayor and state attorney, stop pointing fingers at the police department. Enter a room, lock the door, determine what you are going to. make.”

Arne Duncan, former US Secretary of Education and founder of anti-gun violence organization Chicago CRED, joined dozens of others on Pfleger’s weekly summer peace marches.

“We can’t stop coming out of there. We need the resources, then the mentors, the trauma support, they need the jobs,” Duncan said.

Pfleger and his supporters have taken to the streets of Auburn Gresham distributing flyers featuring community events and resources that provide opportunities and alternatives to what the town saw last weekend.

“We are here to support young people and create an environment where they can live in peace, without having to worry about the gun violence plaguing our communities,” said John Rogers, Founder and CEO of Ariel Investments.

“We had a line, ‘All in Illinois’ for COVID, well let’s get it, ‘All in Chicago for the violence’ and let’s save our babies before our kids become an endangered species,” said Pfleger.

Pfleger said that while urban violence can be concentrated in certain areas, it is an issue that should infuriate everyone in Chicago from north to south.
