Advance voting for municipal elections opens Monday – Red Deer Advocate
The City of Red Deer is encouraging voters to go to the polls early for the next municipal election.
Advance polling opens Monday and will last 13 consecutive days.
Advance polling will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until October 16. Voters will be able to choose one of three advance polling locations: Parkland Mall, Baymont by Wyndham Red Deer and Westerner Park.
“We encourage voters in Red Deer to vote early in this election,” said Returning Officer Samantha Rodwell.
“Advance polling gives voters many opportunities to vote early while helping us reduce the number of people in polling stations on polling day. “
On Election Day, October 18, voters will not have a dedicated neighborhood polling station, but instead will have a choice of eight polling stations across the city.
Larger facilities were selected rather than small community facilities to ensure capacity and space for physical distancing. Polling stations will operate at one-third of their capacity in accordance with current provincial public health guidelines.
“We selected larger facilities for the polling stations to ensure that we could implement the necessary health measures to ensure the safety of voters and staff during a pandemic election,” Rodwell said.
“As a bonus, voters will be able to select their polling station according to a time and place that suit them. “
The city’s elections website will host a map of polling stations with real-time updates on wait times at each location. Information will be updated regularly throughout the day on advance polling days as well as on election day, giving Red Deer voters an informed choice on where to vote.
Eligible Red Deer voters will vote for mayor and councilor for the city of Red Deer, school councilor for Red Deer public schools or Red Deer Catholic regional schools, three Senate appointments and two referendum questions.
Election information, including details on where to vote, who is standing and how to vote, is available on the elections website at elections.reddeer.ca.
